Possible causes

– Failed Camshaft Actuator
– Variable Camshaft Timing Circuit open or shorted
– Variable Camshaft Timing Circuit poor electrical connection
– Engine mechanical problems

Tech notes

Although the service manual suggest that there is a problem with the Camshaft Position Sensor, usually replacing the VANOS seal kit takes care of the problem.
