Possible causes

– Failed Camshaft Actuator
– Variable Camshaft Timing harness open or shorted
– Variable Camshaft Timing circuit poor electrical connection
– Engine mechanical problems

Tech notes

Although the service manual suggest that there is a problem with the Camshaft Position Sensor, usually replacing the VANOS seal kit takes care of the problem.

Symptoms

– Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
– Lack/Loss of power
– Engine rough idle
